Our History & Building

The cornerstone for the present stately brick building was laid in 1922, and was dedicated in January 1924. The congregation goes back to 1873. Through efforts of church members the present building was constructed at the cost of $145,000.00. In 1958 an educational building costing $283,000 was completed.

The architecture of the original building is an example of the academic neoclassicism, common at the turn of the century. Outstanding exterior features of First Church are the four Doric columns, stained glass windows, and predominant dome. Architectural style is Greek Revival.
